BOSTON -- In Plymouth, on Thursday, there was a flurry of last-minute preparations in anticipation of the town's Thanksgiving parade and celebration.

Crews worked to put the finishing touches on the floats that will travel down the parade route on Saturday.

Those floats promise to be both creative and well-crafted. Designs include a merchant marine ship, a motorized Hawaiian volcano honoring the state's 50th year of statehood, a soaring eagle and all sorts of other patriotic themes.

NewsCenter 5's Randy Price found Nancy Carol working on a marbleized outfit that will represent Abraham Lincoln on the Lincoln Memorial float. The float commemorates the former president's 200th birthday.

"I couldn't believe it. I came over here and saw the chaos and all this creativity and paint and kids and people building and painting," said Carol. "They have a passion for it and they have a patriotism."

Workers said that the group is made up of all volunteers. They work in an old metal barn, where the floats are constructed and stored, for months building and assembling the pieces. They added they love what they do, despite the undertaking.

To make each float, volunteers scavenge for junk and then fix it up.

"I found that guy in a dump and fixed him up," said Olly DeMacedo, referring to the giant nutcracker float.

It's all to please the thousands of people who will line the streets, said DeMacedo.

Besides the floats, crowds can also expect marching bands, drum and bugle corps, a military flyover and a food tasting festival.
