Sand Sculpture Festival Kicks Off

BOSTON -- Master sculptors are in Revere this week, working not with plaster or stone but with sand.More than 300 tons of sand have been dropped onto DCR Revere Beach, America’s oldest public beach where the 6th Annual New England Sand Sculpting Festival is under way.The event is taking place from July 10 to 19 at the William G. Reinstein Bandstand on DCR Revere Beach, and all proceeds will go to preservation and revitalization of Revere Beach.The week long event will culminate with a four-day master sand sculpting competition to include sculptors from all over the world competing for over $15,000 in prize money.The master sculptors will collaborate on a large sculpture for several days and then compete against each other on their own individual sculptures for three days starting July 16. Families are invited down to the beach during the week for live entertainment, a raffle, food and fun. On Friday July 17, a band will be playing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday July 18 there will be a band from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
