Actress Sandra Bullock and her husband, Jesse James, were involved in a head-on crash with a drunken driver around 10 p.m. Friday, according to police.

Police said the couple was being driven by Mark Hussey, of Londonderry, N.H., in a rented black SUV on East Main Street in Gloucester when they were hit by Lucile Gatchell, 64, of Gloucester.

Police said Hussey tried to avoid the oncoming car but couldn’t get out of the way.

Gatchell was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and marked lane violations. Gloucester police said she tested more than twice the legal limit on an alcohol breath test.

Police said a witness to the accident was driving behind Gatchell and was dialing 911 to report her swerving when he saw the accident happen.

No one was injured in the crash.

Bullock is shooting the movie “The Proposal” in Rockport. The film also stars Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson
