The Cirque du Soleil is bringing its latest mix of theater, gymnastics and music to Boston.

NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu reported that the show is called "Quidam," Latin for "a certain person." That person in the show is an anonymous passerby who brings the audience into a world of balance, intricate movement and precision.

"I'd like them to go away exhausted, but in a good kind of way," said Mark Ward, of the Cirque du Soleil. "You might cry, you might think, 'Well, that was a little strange,' or you might just be totally awed, and I think that's great. The person is never completely comfortable in his chair."

Ward is the unofficial master of ceremonies of the theatrical drama that combines gymnastics, dance, music and theater. Born in Mexico and raised in the United States, Ward is a ballet dancer, bungee jumper, gymnast and pianist. He is one of 50 performers from 10 countries in the 14th show from Cirque du Soleil.

Another performer is Shayne Courtright, who performs gymnastic routines inside a 6-foot metal wheel called a German wheel. In rehearsal, Courtright maneuvered the wheel perilously close to the edge of the stage.

"That's the point," Courtright said. "Keep them on their toes."

Performers said that they try to bring different elements together into one compelling show.

"With these shows, we want to be able to encompass all those different genres to be one, like, bon-bon," Ward said.

The show will be in town through mid-September.
