Autopsy Finds Overdose Killed Anna Nicole Smith

Ex-Playmate Found Dead Feb. 8

UPDATED: 5:08 pm EDT March 26, 2007

An autopsy of Anna Nicole Smith found that the former Playboy Playmate died of an accidental drug overdose.

Seminole tribal Police Chief Charlie Tiger told reporters Monday, "We found nothing to indicate any foul play."

Police: Smith Died Of Accidental Overdose
Coroner: Playmate Died Of 'Combined Drug Intoxication'

Neither Tiger nor Broward County Medical Examiner Joshua Perper immediately said what drug or drugs were involved in her death. Perper did say, however, that Smith died of combined drug intoxication.

Perper also said the detailed autopsy showed no evidence of disease.

Smith, who was 39, died Feb. 8 after she was found unresponsive at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

The autopsy results were delayed for several weeks because police said they had found additional evidence that might have a bearing on the case.

Perper's initial examination had revealed no serious injuries to Smith's body. Perper said prescription drugs, but no illegal drugs, were found in Smith's hotel room, though he wouldn't identify them.

The sudden nature of Smith's death along with the suspicious circumstances surrounding her son Daniel's death five months earlier have given rise to intense speculation.

An inquest into Daniel Smith's death is scheduled to start Tuesday in the Bahamas, where he died.
