NewsCenter 5's Bianca de la Garza reported that the remotes are changing the way students learn.

Clickers Change Way Students Learn

Teachers, such as Walthm High School's Steve Mullahoo, try maximize students learning every school day.

Now, he's getting help from clickers -- classroom performance systems. Each student is issued a battery operated remote and must physically enter an answer. Teachers see immediately who is understanding the lesson.

"I like to think I can look out there and get a sense of what they do and don't get. Sometimes I'm super wrong," Mullahoo said.

The clickers cost about $3,000.

"The nice thing about this technology is it touches every student," said Dan Breslin, a consultant for the company making the system.

He said that the proof is in test grades.

"In Memphis, math scores go from 5 percent to 15 percent percent higher," he said.

Students with the correct answers can be spotlighted, fostering friendly competition.
