A local mother has come up with a creative way to battle budget cuts in Salem schools.

NewsCenter 5's Bianca de la Garza reported that officials cut dozens of teaching jobs, and now, students are trying to raise cash by raising their voices in the recording studio.

Song Written To Raise Money For Teachers

Anna Ricci wrote a tune for teachers

"I think the morale was pretty low," Ricci said.

Salem is cutting teacher's jobs because of money mismanagement. Ricci, a mother of three who works for the school district, said the students never suffered.

"No matter what's going on, politically, they keep giving to our kids," she said.

"I think schools all over are experiencing the budget crisis like Salem," song co-producer Paul Wennik said.

Wennik and folks at Brookline's New England Institute of Art pitched in to get Ricci's song recorded.

"We want to support our education and our teachers and hopefully we can get across the word," one student said.

The CD still has to be printed, and that will be money that needs to be donated.
