BOSTON -- When it comes to kids and math, the numbers are not good. A nationwide study recently found children are falling behind in the subject.NewsCenter 5's Bianca de la Garza reported Wednesday that experts say early exposure to math is key, and in Boston, children as young as three are being taught numbers every day.
VIDEO: Preschool Students Learn Math"I was skeptical," said mother Ceclia Kirwan. "He said, 'Mom, 10 plus 1 that's 11 isn't it?'"Seven percent of fourth-graders in the U.S. are at an advanced level in math, compared to 38 percent in Singapore. According to research, kids exposed to math early struggle less later."They think math is fun. They know that they can do it," said Meg Johnson, of the West Zone Early Learning Center. "It definitely will give them that early foundation to push them further."The early math is being taught at all Boston public schools.
