BOSTON -- The e-mail appears on your computer screen, offering $80 in exchange for a few minutes of your time spent answering marketing questions about McDonald’s.
Consumers Warned Of McDonald's ScamsNewsCenter 5’s Susan Wornick reported Monday that this is not legitimate, and is likely a so-called phishing e-mail trying to snare personal information from unsuspecting consumers.The e-mail contains the golden arches logo, asking simple questions in what appears to be a customer satisfaction survey. But if you proceed, eventually it requests credit card information.Wornick reports that there are at least two warning signs consumers should look for. First, the e-mail misspells definitely. And, she wondered, how McDonald’s or any other company could stay in business by handing out $80 for simply filling out a form.It’s one of two unscrupulous e-mails regarding the fast food giant making the rounds recently.Another, separate e-mail being circulated claims that McDonald's is importing much of their beef from South America, where regulations are less strict. The e-mail suggests a potential health risk.Snopes.com, a government Web site that has investigated the claims made in this e-mail call it false.
