After struggling with his first-round picks in ESPN's Tournament Challenge for the men's NCAA tournament, President Barack Obama fared better in the second round.
Obama, who made good on a campaign promise he made to ESPN.com's Andy Katz by filling out a bracket for the sports Web site, still has all of his Final Four teams intact through the first two rounds. But the president got off to a shaky start. He made 13 wrong guesses in the first round, getting duped by a slew of upsets. Obama correctly picked No. 10 Maryland over No. 7 California, but he inaccurately thought No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 12 Western Kentucky, No. 10 Michigan, No. 10 USC, No. 11 Dayton, No. 12 Arizona and No. 13 Cleveland State would all exit in the first round. The president also wrongly predicted that No. 11 VCU would upset No. 6 UCLA.In the second round, the president was correct on all almost all of his picks, with the exception of two, where he had Florida State (which lost in the first round to Wisconsin) defeating Xavier, and Wake Forest (which also was eliminated in the first round) advancing to the Sweet 16.Can the president's comeback carry into the remaining rounds? In this week's Sweet 16 games, Obama has Pittsburgh, Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Memphis, Connecticut, Michigan State and Louisville advancing to the Elite Eight. The president's Final Four picks include Pittsburgh, UNC, Louisville and Memphis, with the Tar Heels and Cardinals playing for the championship. Obama has UNC picked to win the entire tournament.
