The wayward Manatee that was rescued in Cape Cod Saturday morning died during a 20-hour ride to Florida, officials at Sea World said Sunday afternoon.

The cause of death is still unknown.

Officials plan to perform a necropsy on the animal this week.

The manatee was trapped in a net and scooped out of the water on Saturday. Rescue teams used a forklift to move it into the back of a climate controlled truck for the journey to Sea World.

The manatee was hypoglycemic and had a low body temperature when it was taken out of the water, rescuers said.

Manatees are normally found off Georgia and Florida and aren't used to cold water. If they get too cold, they stop eating.

Wildlife experts said the Cape Cod manatee became lethargic and was suffering the early stages of cold shock.
