The Southern Poverty Law Center says it’s a hate group. But the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the people who worship at the St. Benedict Center in Richmond, New Hampshire, call themselves traditional Catholics, devoted, they say, to converting the world to what they believe is the one true church. So why doesn’t the Roman Catholic Church officially recognize them? Mary Richardson reports on a town divided, with the center embroiled in conflict in its adopted town.
