(Sports Network) - Brian Anderson threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns as the Marshall Thundering Herd downed the UAB Blazers, 27-7, in a Conference USA matchup at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

It was the fifth win of the season for Marshall (5-3, 3-1 C-USA), which won just four games all of last year and hadn't won five games in a season since 2006.

Anderson was 25-of-38 through the air without an interception, while Chuck Walker caught five balls for 108 yards and a touchdown. Jamal Wilson had seven catches for 59 yards.

Darius Marshall paced the Herd on the ground by running for 133 yards and a score on 32 carries.

UAB quarterback Joe Webb piled up 329 yards of total offense for the Blazers (2-5, 2-2). He completed 16-of-27 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 129 yards on 18 carries. Mark Ferrell caught five passes for 60 yards and a score.

Craig Ratanamorn gave Marshall a 3-0 lead 4:31 into the first quarter with a 43-yard field goal.

Marshall extended its lead to 10-0 when Anderson found Cody Slate with a 30- yard scoring pass with 12:30 remaining in the first half.

It became a 17-0 game when Anderson found Walker with a 15-yard touchdown pass with 1:43 left before halftime.

The Blazers got on the board 26 seconds before intermission when Webb found Ferrell with a 12-yard scoring pass.

Marshall's one-yard run with 2:46 left in the third quarter gave Marshall a 24-7 advantage.

Ratanamorn added his second field goal of the afternoon, a 32-yarder, with 5:35 left in the game.

Marshall was 9-of-18 on third-down conversions, compared to a mere 2-of-12 for the visiting Blazers. UAB failed to convert any of its three four-down tries, yet still managed to average better than seven yards per snap on offense.
