NCAA Game Summary - Montana Vs. Richmond

(Sports Network) - Josh Vaughan ran for 162 yards and a touchdown, and Richmond celebrated its first crown in school history in any sport by beating Montana, 24-7, in the Football Championship Subdivision title game.

Eric Ward completed 12-of-18 passes for 96 yards with a touchdown and also caught a scoring pass on a gadget play in the opening quarter for the Spiders (13-3).

Richmond's first-year coach Mike London, a standout defensive back with the Spiders from 1979-82, saw his team take control of the game on the defensive end with seven sacks.

Cole Bergquist connected on 19-of-36 passes for 267 yards, but was picked off once for Montana (14-2), which had won 10 straight games to get to play for the title. Marc Mariani had seven receptions for 172 yards for the Grizzlies, who were trying for their third football championship, joining the 1995 and 2001 teams. Chase Reynolds ran for 47 yards and the lone touchdown for Montana.
