Prairie View, TX -- Prairie View A&M fired first year coach C.L. Whittington on Thursday, after the Panthers finished with a 1-10 record.

Until a new head coach is hired, athletic director Charles McClelland will handle the football administration duties.

Whittington played at Prairie View from 1970-73 and was hired in January.

The Panthers finished with an 0-8 record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The school's lone win this year was a 45-31 victory over Paul Quinn College of the NAIA.

Prairie View's football program has struggled throughout the years, enduring an NCAA-record 80-game losing skid during the 1990s.
