Black Bears Sign Cosgrove Through 2007
Maine football coach Jack Cosgrove had his
contract extended through the 2007 season on Wednesday."I am pleased to announce that the University of Maine and our head football
coach, Jack Cosgrove, have come to an agreement that extends his tenure as our
football coach," said athletic director Patrick Nero.
The 47-year-old Cosgrove is entering his 11th season as head coach of Maine.
He has registered a 53-61 overall record, including a 47-34 mark over the past
seven years. He also received Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors in 1996 and
2001.
Cosgrove's Black Bears repeated as Atlantic-10 co-champions in 2002 to become
the first consecutive league champions since Delaware turned the trick in 1991
and 1992, and the first Maine team to accomplish the feat since 1951 and 1952.
"I am very thankful to the administration of both UMaine and the University of
Maine System for the opportunity to continue my coaching career here in
Orono," said Cosgrove. "It's no secret that the Cosgroves are big fans of the
state of Maine, particularly the greater Bangor area where I have now lived
the better part of my life."
