NCAA Game Summary - Connecticut At South Florida

Tampa, FL -- (Sports Network) - South Florida used two rushing touchdowns this evening, as the Bulls slipped past the Connecticut Huskies, 17-13, in Big East action at Raymond James Stadium. Jamar Taylor only rushed for 38 yards, but found the end zone once for South Florida (7-4, 2-4 Big East), while Benjamin Williams also cross the goal line, but finished with just 18 rushing yards. Quarterback Matt Grothe led the ground game with 51 yards, and also threw for 124 yards through the air. Tyler Lorenzen threw for 119 yards and a one touchdown for UConn (7-4, 3-3), but completed just 10-of-24 passes. Donald Brown struggled out of the backfield, rushing for just 96 yards on 3.4 ypc. The Bulls took an early 7-0 lead when Williams plunged into the end zone on a three-yard run. South Florida pushed its lead to 10-0 with a 29-yard field goal by Maikon Bonani just minutes into the second stanza. However, in the final seconds of the opening half David Teggart nailed a 21- yard field goal, cutting UConn's deficit to 10-3. The Huskies evened the score at 10 apiece late in the third frame when Lorenzen connected with Ellis Gaulden with a 43-yard scoring strike. However, it did not take long for the Bulls to respond, as Taylor scampered into the end zone on a 25-yard run, giving South Florida a seven-point edge. The Huskies added a 35-yard Teggart field goal just minutes later, but UConn could come no closer, as South Florida held on for the victory.
