Charlottesville, VA -- (Sports Network) - Mike Scott scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Virginia Cavaliers to a 79-46 victory over the Rider Broncs in a non-league tussle at John Paul Jones Arena. Sammy Zeglinski added 12 points for Virginia (2-1), while Jeff Jones and Sylven Landesberg contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the victory. Brandon Penn was the lone player to finish with double-figures for Rider (2-1), as he posted 10 points to go along with seven boards in the loss. The Cavs shot 56.0 percent from the field in the opening frame and went into the intermission with a 36-22 advantage. Virginia used a tenacious defensive approach in the second stanza, holding Rider to a meager 26.7 percent shooting effort from the floor, en route to the 33-point win. The Cavs shot 51.8 percent from the field in the contest, while Rider posted a lackluster 33.3 percent shooting effort from the floor.
