St. Thomas, Virgin Islands -- (Sports Network) - Garrett Williamson scored 18 points and the Saint Joseph's Hawks nipped the Boston College Eagles, 84-80, in the first round of the 2009 Paradise Jam. Williamson connected on 10-of-13 shots from the foul line and added two steals for SJU (3-0), which will face seventh-ranked Purdue in the winner's bracket. Carl Jones and Darrin Govens both got involved as well, recording 16 points apiece in the win. Joe Trapani paced the Eagles (2-1) in defeat with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Reggie Jackson notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards, and Corey Raji had 11 points in his first game. Raji, along with Rakim Sanders, made their season debuts tonight after serving a two-game suspension for violating team rules. The first half went back-and-forth and a dunk by Jackson with 11 seconds left gave BC a 40-39 edge at the break. Trailing 76-74, Williamson took over for SJU, scoring the team's final 10 points to lift the Hawks to the four-point victory. His three-point play with 38 seconds remaining pushed the Hawks ahead, 79-76, and they wouldn't give up the lead. The Hawks drained 10-of-21 shots from beyond the arc and made good on 20-of-27 free-throw attempts in the win.
