Providence, RI -- (Sports Network) - Keith Cothran scored a game-high 16 points, as the Rhode Island Rams opened their season with a convincing 78-57 non- league win over the Brown Bears at the Pizzitola Center.

Reserves Jamal Wilson and Orion Outerbridge chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Delroy James scored 12 for Rhode Island (1-0).

Peter Sullivan paced Brown (1-2) with 15 points, and Matt Mullery recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Despite shooting just 36.4 percent from the floor in the first half, Brown trailed by only a 31-30 margin at the break, thanks to a 1-of-9 effort from beyond the arc for URI.

The Rams' three-point shooting did not get any better in the second stanza (2- of-14), but they buried 19 field goals in the frame, while holding Brown to only seven.

Brown committed 22 turnovers in the game, which URI converted into a commanding 34-5 edge in points off turnovers.
