POSTED: 4:01 pm EST November 14, 2009

(Sports Network) - Douglas Davis hit a layup with 28 seconds left in regulation, blocked a potential game-winning shot, then hit two foul shots to give the Princeton Tigers a 71-68 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas in the season opener for both schools at Rose Arena.

Davis scored 16 points for the Tigers (1-0). Dan Mavraides also netted 16 for Princeton, which shot a sparkling 58.5 percent from the floor. Zach Finley added 13 points.

Robbie Harman tallied 22 points for Central Michigan (0-1) to top all scorers, while Jordan Bitzer contributed 19.

Princeton led 61-54 with 5:30 left in the game but the Chippewas scored eight of the next nine points to tie the game with 3:06 remaining.

After Davis' layup, Harman had a chance to put Central Michigan in front, but his potential game-winning shot was blocked by Davis, who went on to hit two insurance free throws for the three-point win.

Princeton, which held a 43-39 halftime lead, hit 8-of-14 shots from beyond the arc on the day.
