GAME NOTES: The Long Beach State 49ers will head to the Midwest when they take on the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix this evening in the Resch Center.

The 49ers opened their campaign with back-to-back victories over Alaska- Anchorage (86-65) and Pepperdine (67-58), but suffered their first loss a couple days ago with an 82-62 setback to Notre Dame. After this contest the 49ers will head to Anaheim to take part in the 76 Classic.

As for the Phoenix, they opened the year with a 68-56 loss to UAB, but since then the team has been red-hot, winning four consecutive matchups. The most recent victory was a hard-fought, 70-64 win over Northern Michigan.

This would be the second-ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood. The only other matchup went in favor of the Phoenix, 86-75, last season.

After opening with two straight wins, the 49ers were brought back down to earth in a 20-point loss to Notre Dame. Long Beach State shot a pedestrian 41.3 percent from the floor, and made just 4-of-15 attempts from behind the arc. Larry Anderson poured in 20 points and dished out five assists for LBSU, while T.J. Robinson added 16 points. Greg Plater chipped in 11 points, while Eugene Phelps pulled down an impressive 18 rebounds. Anderson and Robinson have been the top two scoring options for LBSU, as Anderson is posting 19.3 ppg, while Robinson is contributing 15.3 ppg. Phelps is only averaging 9.0 ppg, but the forward is doing a solid job on the glass, grabbing 8.7 rebounds per matchup.

The Phoenix are only averaging 72.0 ppg, which is not spectacular, but the team is shooting a healthy 48.0 percent from the field, and an even more impressive 48.9 percent from behind the arc. Rahmon Fletcher has been the main scoring threat in the early going, as the guard is posting 16.2 ppg, to go along with a team-best 19 assists. Troy Cotton has also done well for the Phoenix, netting 14.2 ppg. Bryquis Pernine is contributing 13.7 ppg, but the guard suffered a sprained ankle and he is questionable for tonight's matchup. The Phoenix were not overwhelming in their recent win over Northern Michigan, but the team did just enough to win. Green Bay shot 44.6 percent from the field, and was once again led by Fletcher, who netted 19 points, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Cotton also posted 19 points for the Phoenix, while Randy Berry tallied 12 points and seven boards.

Not having Pernine will surely hurt the Phoenix, but even without him, look for the Phoenix to remain hot and grab a victory at home.

Predicted Outcome

UW-Green Bay 74, Long Beach State 65
