NCAA Game Summary - Colgate At Connecticut

Storrs, CT -- (Sports Network) - Stanley Robinson scored 18 points, going 8-of-8 from the field, and Kemba Walker added 16 points, as 12th-ranked Connecticut pulled away in the second half for a 77-63 win over Colgate in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Gavin Edwards tallied 14 points, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel 11 and Jerome Dyson 10 for the Huskies (2-0), who will play Hofstra in the second round Tuesday. The Pride beat Yale, 68-63, Monday night. Mike Venezia scored 17 for the Raiders (0-1), who also received 12 apiece from Kyle Roemer and Yaw Gyawu. The Huskies led by nine early, but Colgate charged back and gained a 26-22 edge thanks to nine consecutive points, capped by Roemer's three-ball. The Huskies rallied with a 9-3 run to end the half, capping it with Edwards' slam in the final minute for a 33-32 lead. UConn blew it open by using a 16-3 spurt in the second half. Robinson's jumper started the rally and Dyson's layup ended it for a 60-41 difference with 10 1/2 minutes left. "We didn't play well defensively (in the first half). I think they made some pretty tough shots," admitted Walker. "We kind of adjusted at halftime. It made it easier for us."Game Notes:The Huskies shot 55.2 percent from the field...This is the North Regional of the NIT Season Tip-Off. It's the third appearance in the event for the Huskies, who finished in third place on each of the two previous occasions.
