GAME NOTES: Seeking just their second 2-0 start in the last two decades, the Towson Tigers welcome the Buffalo Bulls for a non-conference battle at the Towson Center.

The Tigers started off on the right foot in 2009-10 by taking care of Miami- Ohio last week with an 82-71 decision. The team has been waiting patiently to get back onto the court for eight days, but now the contests will be a bit more frequent as Towson heads to Navy on Tuesday and then faces nationally- ranked Dayton four days later.

As for Buffalo, a team that has already defeated the Midshipmen with a 63-53 triumph in Maryland on Thursday, the squad is now an even 1-1 on the young season. The Bulls began their schedule with a disappointing 58-57 loss to Vermont at home on Sunday.

With respect to the all-time series between these two schools on the hardwood, the Tigers have won all three previous meetings. The most recent of those contests took place in 1992 as the Tigers roughed up Buffalo in a lopsided 122-58 final as part of the ECC Tournament.

Even though the Bulls shot just 38.5 percent from the field in the first half against Navy the other night, the defense for the visitors managed to hold the Midshipmen to a total of just eight field goals in the first half and 30.8 percent from the floor for the entire game. Mitchell Watt accounted for 13 points and six rebounds for the Bulls, followed by Calvin Betts with 12 points and eight board to go along with his four steals. Off the bench, Jawaan Alston nearly registered a double-double with his nine points and game-high 10 rebounds. Points have been hard to come by for the Bulls in the early going, the team averaging just 60.0 ppg, but the good news is that the opposition has come up with only 55.5 ppg. Watt's 66.7 percent shooting from the floor has led him to a team-best 11.0 ppg as the lone double-digit scores, but put the entire roster together and Buffalo is shooting a collective 36.8 percent from the field and 20.7 percent beyond the arc.

For the fourth straight season the Tigers recorded a win in their season opener, thanks in large part to a career-high 25 points by Calvin Lee in the 11-point triumph at home. Lee made good on 10-of-16 shots from the floor for Towson, the team as a whole shooting an impressive 52.6 percent from the field over the course of 40 minutes of action. The team didn't have another double- digit scorer to speak of, but that doesn't mean there were not other strong performance of which to make mention. Troy Franklin came off the bench to offer up nine points and seven assists, while Brian Morris chipped in six points and eight dishes. Last year the Tigers, who were a mere 12-22, had similar scoring punch as they showed in this season's opener. Lee, primarily a bench player last season, has come a long way from scoring just 5.8 ppg and playing barely 17 minutes per contest. Josh Thornton stands as the top returning scorer for the group after putting up 10.9 ppg in 2008-09.

Towson certainly has some potential this season to work towards more victories than last year, but the Tigers will first half to deal with teams like Buffalo, so they had better show some spunk right now.

Predicted Outcome
