GAME NOTES: The first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off concludes tonight with the Boston University Terriers taking on the Kansas State Wildcats in San Juan. The winner will advance to face either Indiana or Ole Miss in the second round of the winners' bracket on Friday.

The Terriers are off to a slow start at 0-2 and things won't get any easier in this tourney, which includes three Top-25 teams. BU is clearly out of place in this event and losses to Iona (82-73) and George Washington (69-59) to begin the season certainly didn't do anything for the team's confidence.

On the flip side, Kansas State comes into the tourney with a full head of steams, as it won both of its games in convincing fashion. The Wildcats started the season with a 92-54 rout of Loyola-Chicago prior to topping Western Illinois, 82-50, on Sunday.

Tonight's game marks the first-ever meeting between KSU and BU on the hardwood.

The Terriers shot a paltry 30.6 percent from the field, including a 5-of-27 showing from downtown, as they were handled by GW on Tuesday. The team wasn't all that great at the foul line either, converting just 16-of-25 chances, and it had 18 turnovers to boot. John Holland and Corey Lowe did most of the damage for the Terriers, combining for 45 points, with Holland also grabbing 11 boards. The duo, which totaled 33 points in the opener, accounted for much of the team's scoring a year ago, with Holland averaging 18.1 ppg and Lowe 17.2 ppg.

The Wildcats used their size to their advantage, dominating the glass, 48-31, and outscoring Western Illinois, 44-22, in the paint of their romp on Sunday. Kansas State also had its way defensively, as it blocked 10 shots while holding Western Illinois to a dismal 28.8 percent shooting effort from the field. KSU, itself, hit 50.8 percent from the floor for the second game in a row. Jamar Samuels sparked the team off the bench with 19 points and seven rebounds, and he had 11 points in the opener. Denis Clemente, who averaged 15.0 ppg a season ago, added 13 points and five helpers, while Jacob Pullen chipped in with 10 points. Pullen is the team's second leading returning scorer after posting 13.9 ppg in 2008-09.

KSU is the more talented and deeper team here and it should be able to wear down a BU club that was in action just this past Tuesday before making the trip to Puerto Rico.

Predicted Outcome

Kansas State 85, Boston University 69

Boston University
