Mary Richardson is co-host of WCVB-TV's Chronicle, the nation's only locally-produced, nightly newsmagazine. She has co-hosted the program with Peter Mehegan since October, 1984.
Richardson's work on Chronicle, which has been syndicated nationally on the Arts and Entertainment Cable Network and on other cable stations, has taken her from "The Main Streets and Back Roads of New England" to the glens and meadows of her ancestral Ireland, to the Great Wall of China and to the rain forests of Central America.
Richardson joined WCVB in 1980 as a news reporter and anchor. In addition to anchoring the station's weekend and Midday newscasts, she hosted, for four years, WCVB's popular weekly public affairs series, Five on Five.
Richardson came to New England in 1978 to become the first female in Boston to co-anchor two evening newscasts, the former WNAC-TV 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news programs. She quickly established herself as one of Boston's most popular local television personalities.
She began her broadcasting career in 1973 at KCRA-TV in Sacramento, Calif. By 1975, she was the station's co-anchor for the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
Originally from Kansas, Richardson was raised and educated in California, where she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Santa Clara and a master's degree in communications at California State University in Sacramento.
Richardson is married to Stan Leven, a senior producer for NewsCenter 5, who has often worked with Richardson. They co-produced an Emmy Award-winning documentary on AIDS.
