With German automakers capturing three of the 2009 EyesOn Design Awards at the North American International Auto Show, only the Cadillac Converj stood in the way of a sweep.

The electric drive Converj, a luxury equivalent of the company's extended range electric vehicle Chevrolet Volt slated for late 2010, won one of the two awards presented Tuesday at the Detroit show for most significant concept vehicle designs to debut at the show.

The other winner was the Audi Sportback, a coupe-like four-door diesel sedan that is likely to come to market in 2010 badged as the A7.

Meanwhile, the Audi R8 V10, a roadster powered by a Lamborghini-made V-10, and BMW Z4, a two-seater with a retractable aluminum hardtop, were the winners in the production vehicle category.

A panel of 23 judges, all current or past design executives, toured the show floor Tuesday before making their selections.

Other production vehicles that made it into the finals were the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon, Fisker Karma, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Ford Taurus and Mazda3 5-door.

Other concept finalists were the Chrysler 200C, Lincoln C, Volkswagen BlueSport Diesel and the Volvo S60.
