In Monday's medical news, NewsCenter 5's Heather Unruh reported on battling the bulge at barbecues, a new finding about bipolar children and men's biological clock.

Men's Biological Clock

It has been known for many years that a woman's ability to conceive starts to decline after age 35. Now French researchers have found that men have a biological clock, too.

Researchers studied almost 2,000 couples undergoing fertility treatments. All the women were sterile, so the age of the father was key. Scientists found that if the man was over 40, the in vitro fertilization was 70 percent more likely to fail, compared to men who were under the age of 30.

Bipolar Children

Some of the troubles bipolar children face could be how they're interpreting others, according to new research.

A small study compared how bipolar children process people's faces. And even when the expression was emotionally neutral, those with bipolar disorder sensed fear, hostility or threat more than healthy children.

Barbecue Bulge

It is the summer barbecue season, and all those classic summer foods can have a lasting effect on your waistline, doctors say.

Experts said the average hot dog has 310 calories and 13 grams of fat. If you eat a hamburger, you're chewing off 470 calories and 29 grams of fat. Add cheese and you can add 50 calories and 10 more grams of fat.

Experts advised people to watch their portion size and said fruit can be a great summer dessert. They also said people should cut back on condiments, which can be very high in fat and calories.
