Powerball Jackpot Soars To $252 Million; Mega Millions Reaches $143 Million

BRAINTREE, Mass. -- Massachusetts State Lottery players have a chance to win up to $395 million in jackpot prizes this week in two different games. The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots keep getting bigger.The Mega Millions jackpot to be drawn Tuesday is up to $143 million with a cash option of more than $87 million.The Powerball jackpot to be drawn Wednesday is $252 million with a cash option of $121 million.The Powerball jackpot is the 11th largest prize in Powerball history. The jackpot is also the largest Powerball prize since Aug. 19, 2009 when a $259.9 million jackpot was won in South Carolina.Massachusetts and 10 other Mega Millions states entered into a cross-selling agreement with Powerball on Jan. 31, setting off a cascade of sales across the nation. Since then Powerball sales in Massachusetts are more than $18 million.“The multi-state games are paying big dividends for Lottery players and our 351 cities and towns,” said Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, who chairs the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “This new agreement has been a boon for our players and taxpayers, especially during a period when our communities are in dire need of local aid.”Mega Millions drawings are aired every Tuesday and Friday at 11:24 p.m. on WCVB-TV. Powerball drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday and also aired on WCVB-TV at 11:20 p.m.
