Mob Enforcer Unflappable On Cross-Examination

Former Hit Man Says Bulger Corrupted Connolly

The defense was unable to shake admitted mob enforcer Kevin Weeks' story Thursday in the trial of a former FBI agent accused of racketeering.

NewsCenter 5's David Boeri reported that Weeks testified for the prosecution Wednesday that former FBI Agent John Connolly received bribes and gave the mob the identities of three informants, who later ended up dead. Weeks also said that Connolly told mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger that he was going to be indicted, causing Bulger to flee.

Under cross-examination, Weeks was calm and, at times, sarcastic, sometimes eliciting laughter from the courtroom. Weeks maintained that he was present when Bulger gave Connolly gifts, and he said that Bulger claimed that Connolly was one of six local agents that Bulger had corrupted.

In an effort to shake up Weeks' story, the defense attorney asked how Weeks could clearly remember certain dates when events allegedly occurred, specifically a conversation with Bulger Weeks said happened on Dec. 23, 1994.

"It was kind of a famous night when James Bulger took off," Weeksa said. "It was two days before Christmas. It was a cold, clear day in front of the Copley Plaza when I told him, and he took off."

The cross-examination finished up Thursday morning.
