It was an explosive day of testimony Wednesday in the corruption trial of former FBI agent John Connolly.

Kevin Weeks, the former right-hand man of mobster James "Whitey" Bulger, returned to the stand to testify for the prosecution in the case.

NewsCenter 5's David Boeri said that Weeks connected Connolly to the leaking of the identity of informants who were talking to the FBI about Bulger.

As a self-confessed loan shark, leg-breaker, extortionist, gravedigger, body remover, and Boy Friday to Whitey, Weeks had a ringside seat to at least several murders. He knew where the bodies were buried, Boeri said.

On Wednesday, he was helping to bury defendant John Connolly.

Weeks testified that he first learned the secret of Connolly when the FBI agent came in and asked him, 'What was up?' Weeks got angry, and then Bulger got angry with Weeks.

"(Bulger) got mad at me. (He said), 'Don't ever talk about that guy like that. He's a friend of ours.' John Connolly was giving them information," Weeks said.

Weeks testified that criminal associate Brian Halloran was implicating Bulger and company in a murder. They quickly snuffed Halloran out.

In appreciation for such information and protection, Weeks said that Bulger took care of his friends in law enforcement.

"Christmas is for cops and kids," Weeks quoted Bulger as saying.

There were gifts, funneled through Connolly, to FBI agents and supervisors in Boston, and envelopes with cash for as many as 30 police officers, according to Weeks' testimony.

"Bulger gave me two envelopes to give to John Connolly. One had the letter 'Z' on it for $5,000," Weeks said. Z is for Zip, Connolly's code name, Boeri said.

"The other had Agent Orange on it -- $1,000," Weeks said. Agent Orange was for FBI agent John Newton, who is still an active agent, Boeri said.

Perhaps most damaging of all to Connolly, who followed intently, was Weeks' testimony that Connolly came to see him at his liquor store on Dec. 23, 1994.

"John Connolly came in the store and asked me if the other guy was around. He explained to me indictments were imminent against Jimmy, Stevie and Frank. Only three to four people in the FBI office knew. He said to, 'Get word to Bulger right away,'" Weeks said.
